The tool starts in your browser.
Everything is calculated in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to our server.
How to use it in three steps
The tool as a schematic with this page's example. Each step's number stands where you take it: in the fields, at the result or outside the tool.
Choose UUID or password.
Set how many and, for passwords, the length and characters.
Click Generate and copy the result.
Where the strength of a 20-character password comes from
The example settings and what the tool does with them before it draws. The password itself is not here: the tool draws a new one on every click.
You set
- Kind
- Password, one
- Length
- 20
- Characters
- Upper case, digits, symbols, no look-alikes
Alphabet
- To draw from
- 80 characters: 25 lower case, 24 upper case, 8 digits, 23 symbols
No look-alikes means without l, I, O, 0, 1. With them the alphabet has 85 characters.
Drawing
- Characters
- 20 draws from 80
Each character on its own from crypto.getRandomValues. Values that would skew the even spread are thrown away and drawn again.
Strength
- Bits
- over 126 bits
The length times log2 of the alphabet size: the bits of randomness in the password.
Result
- A new one on every Generate click
- It never leaves your computer
